Name:
Vivian Wheeler, USA
Length: 27.9cm's (11 inches)
Vivian Wheeler of Wood River, Illinois, USA, grew a
full beard after the death of her mother in 1990. The longest strand from
the follicle to the tip of hair was measured at 27.9 cm (11 in) in 2000. As
a small child growing up, Vivian was always made to feel different. Her father
insisted she started shaving at the age of 7 but this failed to stop the taunts.
It was only after four marriages and her mother’s death in 1993 that
she finally stopped trimming back the facial growth and let her beard grow. She
prefers to tie the beard up, which allows her to continue with her day-to-day
routines. Currently the mother-of-three has joined a touring curiosity show
based in Illinois and feels much happier with her life. She said: “It
really helped to have a Guinness World Record... it showed me I could be proud
of being me. It made me feel like I had a chance in society.”
Worlds Longest Fingernails
Name:
Shridhar Challal, India.
Length: 6.15 Metres (20+ Feet)
Chillal
of Poona, India had his record-breaking fingernails measured on the set of
Guinness World Records: Primetime. The combined length of the five nails of
his left hand were found to be a staggering 6.15 m (20 ft 2.25 in). Shridhar
does not grow the nails on his right hand.
His ambition to grow his nails started from a young age. He says, "As
a boy, I had an inclination to do something unique and outstanding. One day,
I just happened to read about a Chinese saint who grew his nails and thought
I could do that to create a world record."But how easy was it to achieve
such a record-breaking length?
"Growing my nails has been a really traumatic experience, as I had to
take the utmost care in nurturing their growth during the last 48 years. For
as many years I have used my right hand for all my day-to-day chores and nobody
can believe I have also had to forego a peaceful night's sleep. So it's against
all the odds of daily life including reading, writing, cycling, walking, and
so on, that I have successfully grown my nails. Shridhar's hand
is now permanently disfigured from supporting the weight of the nails all
these years, and nerve damage has resulted in deafness in his left ear. When
asked if it was worth the effort and pain, he replied: "What
does man not do for fame? He jumps from boats, dives from planes and does
stunts on motorcycles. This is also done for fame... So, yes, I will do it
all over again if I were to have another life."
Worlds Smallest Waist
Name:
Cathie Jung, USA.
Length: 38cm's (15 inches)
Cathie
Jung's waist is about the same size as a regular jar of mayonnaise. She's
been wearing a corset every day for the past 12 years, and she now wears one
24 hours a day. "I probably have around 100 of them,"
says the corset queen. Corsets
were hugely popular in Victorian times (during the 1800s), when they were
often strengthened with pieces of whalebone. Corsets pinch the waist, and
if worn for a long time they can permanently alter the shape of the waistline.
The wasp-waist look went out of fashion in the 1920s, but Cathie says that
plenty of folks still enjoy it today.
"A lot of people think it's wonderful," she says. "But
some people think it's ridiculous, perhaps they're jealous because they're
overweight." Cathie says her tiny waist has not caused her
any health problems.

had you for 21 years but the nails are new."
